14 Henrietta Street presents Teatime Talks, a series of talks inspired by the history and people of 14 Henrietta Street.
By listening and engaging with visitors, historians, experts, local people, former tenement residents and their families, we continue to uncover, record and respond to the 300 year story of 14 Henrietta Street.
Dublin City Council Historian in Residence for Dublin North Central, Katie Blackwood, will be giving a talk titled ‘Fleapits, Palaces, and Multiplexes: a History of Cinemas in Dublin’.
In this talk about the history of Dublin cinemas, come and hear about the makeshift venues of the early days, the 1930s palaces of entertainment and the suburban cinemas of the mid-late twentieth century. Memories of cinema-going from the audience will be most welcome. Cinemas frequently emerge within our Your Tenement Memories oral history programme and were an important part of growing up in Dublin's inner-city for many.
Listen to our previous Teatime Talk where Sean J Murphy examines the careers and family relationships of four generations of Gardiners.
