Ó imeachtaí ceiliúrtha go póstaí go torraimh, bhí an ceol mar chuid thábhachtach den saol i dtionóntáin Shráíd Henrietta. Chan páistí amhráin faoi lampaí na sráide, thug mná sólás do leanaí le suantraithe boga agus canadh bailéid ar choirnéil sráide. Tá cuimhní cinn ag go leor daoine de fhuaim Lily Dowling ag seinm pianó an teaghlaigh i 14 Sráid Henrietta.
Don Chaint Am Tae as Gaeilge, bí i dteannta leis an staraí agus treoraí Fergus Whelan i gcomhrá leis an bpíobaire Néillidh Mulligan, ó Chumann na bPíobairí Uilleann, agus lenár gcomharsana i 15 Sráid Henrietta.
Clúdóidh an chaint saol an cheoil i gceantar Shráid Henrietta, ag tabhairt chun cuimhne Club Shráid an Teampaill a bhunaigh athair Néillidh agus ceoltóirí eile a bhog ó Chontae Liatroma sna 1940í, a bhfuil a n-oidhreacht beo beathach inniu sa Chlub Píobairí agus sa Teach Tabhairne Cobblestone.
From hooleys to weddings to wakes, music was an important part of life in the tenements of Henrietta Street.
For this Teatime Talk as Gaeilge, join historian and tour guide Fergus Whelan in conversation with piper Néillidh Mulligan, from the Society of Irish Pipers (Na Píobairí Uilleann), and our neighbours in 15 Henrietta Street.
The talk will cover the music scene in the Henrietta Street area, remembering the Church Street Club founded by Néillidh’s father and other musicians who migrated from County Leitrim in the 1940’s, whose legacy lives on today in the Pipers Club and the Cobblestone Pub.
This talk will take place in Irish.
