Dublin City Council Culture Company has appointed Fiona Harrington as an Artist in Residence at 14 Henrietta Street for 2025. Fiona is a visual artist who works with handmade lace.

As Artist in Residence, Fiona will spend time in the museum researching and drawing to develop her creative response to the history of the building. This will involve working directly with the museum’s collection, including listening to the oral history interviews collected through our Your Tenement Memories programme.

Fiona says: “I am interested in the stories contained within the fabric of the building - in the walls, the floorboards and the many objects stored in the museum's collection. During my residency I will explore this using traditional Irish lace-making processes, finding new ways to unravel and reveal the history of 14 Henrietta Street.”

She will work closely with our tour guides to understand the stories of the lives of the people who lived in 14 Henrietta Street and the history of the house over 300 years.

Fiona will also connect with individuals and community groups through our Culture Club programme providing opportunities to see the development of her creative response over the course of the residency and to learn about the process of making handmade lace.

Our Creative Residencies encourage makers and experts to pilot new partnerships with organisations. By bringing creative people and organisations together, and by connecting through culture and conversations, we will develop and share new ways of working. We create partnerships to try out ideas, test new approaches and add to the cultural story of the city.
